Interview

"My MOS is 00-Bravo, which is an Engineering Diver. We mainly do security swims for boats. The Army has more boats than the Navy, believe it or not. We sweep for mines, perform underwater demolitions and constructions. It’s a lot of hands-on work.

We're used for hasty and deliberate river recons, which is when an Army bridging unit wants to cross, they need all the terrain information under the water, like the slope, the water depth, bottom type—any information we can give them so they can put in the bridges.

Army Divers use a lot of unique equipment like generators, air compressors, rubber boats we call Zodiacs, and of course, our SCUBA gear. One of our coolest pieces of equipment is called the hydrographic survey set. It has a sonar light, which reads underwater depths and then it uses a GPS to actually give you an underwater map of an area.

The reason I chose to be an Army Diver was I love water. I'm from California and I’ve been around water all my life. I think it's the best job in the Army."
